Before You Begin Working

The Saskatchewan Association of Licensed Practical Nurses (SALPN) is given the authority and responsibility to regulate LPNs in Saskatchewan by the Licensed Practical Nurses Act, 2000.  The purpose of regulation is to protect the public from practitioners who are unqualified, incompetent or unethical by approving education, ensuring competent practice, preventing poor practice and intervening in cases of unacceptable practice.

 

Before commencing employment, a nurse must hold a current Practicing (LPN) or Graduate (GLPN) license. LPN or GLPN licensure ensures that a nurse has met the registration and licensure requirements to deliver care to the residents of Saskatchewan. Current LPN or GLPN licensure is required to begin any aspect of Employment and/or to begin Employer Orientation. This concept also applies to Members who are Non-Practicing and wish to return to their former or new employment following a leave from nursing practice.

 

Without current LPN or GLPN licensure, a nurse does not have liability insurance protection and is not protected for the services rendered while working unlicensed.
