Non-Practicing Certification

SALPN Members who are eligible for practicing licensure but are not currently working or practicing as an LPN in Saskatchewan, may obtain a Non-Practicing Certificate. Non-practicing certification allows Members to stay connected with the SALPN and the ability to accumulate Continuing Education Hours. Generally, Non-Practicing certification is temporary in nature and most often held for the following reasons:

  1. Maternity/Paternity Leave
  2. Leave due to Illness or Injury (Disability, Worker’s Compensation)
  3. Moving out of Saskatchewan
  4. Education Leave
  5. Retirement

Members who are Non-Practicing, may return to practicing licensure status at any time of their choosing and must do so before returning to or beginning employment, including employer orientation. To change your status from Non-Practicing to Practicing, please complete and submit the following form; Non-Practicing to Practicing Form. Please provide the form along with the $400.00 payment no later than 10 days prior to your intended return to or commencement of work. Please note Continuing Education hours must be accumulated once the practicing status change occurs.

Practicing to Non-Practicing

SALPN Members who hold Practicing licensure may opt to change their status to Non-Practicing at any time of their choosing. Once a change to Non-Practicing occurs, the Member must cease employment or cease their engagement in LPN activities. To change your status from Practicing to Non-Practicing, please complete the following form along with the required $50.00 payment; Practicing to Non-Practicing Form. If an LPN does not initiate a change from Practicing to Non-Practicing registration, the annual renewal requirements, such as 24 CEP hours, remain mandatory.
