SALPN Mandatory Competencies
The Saskatchewan Association of Licensed Practical Nurses (SALPN), has three mandatory LPN competencies required by legislation. The two mandatory competencies currently required for initial registration and licensure are Health Assessment and Medication Administration, and the third is IV Initiation/Therapy which takes effect on December 1, 2018.
Applicants who did not have Health Assessment and/or Medication Administration education in their basic nursing program or haven’t completed the education post-basically will need to have it completed for licensure consideration. Applicants who have Health Assessment and/or Medication Administration education (proof of same must be provided) may be approved for licensure but will need to provide proof of completion of the IV Initiation/Therapy program to be eligible for 2019 licensure renewal.
