REMINDER
The SALPN has many essential responsibilities, some of which are extensive at this time of year. Here are the expectations when communicating with the SALPN.
Standard telephone protocols:
Leave a voice message. If you call when we are unavailable, we cannot call you back to assist if you do not leave a message.
Listen carefully to our voice message. If the staff member you are trying to reach is away for an extended period, their message will indicate this and provide direction to you for an alternative contact.
Do not leave multiple messages with the same staff member or leave the same message with multiple staff members. Doing so creates unnecessary work for our team. We try to have all messages responded to within 2 business day.
Standard email protocols:
Before emailing, attempt to locate the answer to your question on the SALPN website.
Send your email to the most appropriate department. The SALPN has multiple email options. They are:
For questions related to finance, including the pre-authorized payment plan (PPP)
Remember to always include your full name and registration number in your email. With nearly 4500 members, this will assist us in responding quickly.
Try to include all your questions in oneemail so we can serve you better.
Do not email the same inquiry to multiple addresses. Doing so creates unnecessary work for our team. We try to have all emails responded to within 2 business days.
Pre-Authorized Payment Plan (PPP) Payments and Renewal
The annual PPP cycle begins in February and ends in September. If you enrolled in the program after the February start date, residual licensure fees will be due at renewal.
Any ‘missed’ payments will need to be paid during your renewal process.
If you’re interested in enrolling in the program, you may do so in the new year.
If you’re already enrolled and would like to stay in the program, you do not need to take any action. Your enrollment will remain active in the new year.
Practice Hour Extension Application
To be eligible for annual licensure, members must have successfully completed a practical nurse education program within the previous four (4) years or worked as an LPN for at least 1250 hours in the previous five (5) years.
Not sure if you meet the minimum practice hour requirement for your annual licensure renewal?
Log in to your SALPN Member Portal and click on Update Profile to view the hours you declared for the last four years. Now, consider the hours you have or will work in the current year…if the hours on your profile and for the current year add up to 1250, you meet the requirement! You may consider applying for a Practice Hour Extension if your LPN practice hours do not add up to at least 1250. Complete details about the application are at this linkon our website.
At the May 2022 SALPN Annual General Meeting, the Membership in attendance approved a bylaw related to reporting criminal charges and convictions. Since the AGM, the Minister of Health approved the bylaw, which is now in force.
As a reminder, the new bylaw requires that a member charged with or convicted of a criminal offence must report the charge or conviction to the SALPN Registrar within thirty (30) days of its occurrence.
The SALPN’s review of criminal charges and convictions takes time, and Members should expect and prepare for delays, especially if the submission coincides with the annual licensure renewal.
